Tradies are getting jobs from YouTube. Here is how to start your channel

Customers check you out before they call. They type your name into Google. They look for proof you can do the job. A YouTube channel is that proof, and it keeps working after you switch the phone off.

Why it works for a trade

A video of you doing the job beats any testimonial. Anyone can write a good review. Faking a video of a job done properly is much harder. When a customer sees your work and how you talk, they have already decided to trust you before they call.

What to film

Film the job, not yourself. Before and after shots. A common fix people search for. What a proper quote includes. The mistakes you see in other people's work.

You do not need to be on camera. Film your hands, the materials and the finished job. The job is the content.

Gear that is good enough

Your phone is the camera. A cheap tripod stops the shake. A lapel microphone fixes the audio, and audio matters more than the picture. The whole kit costs less than a night out.

Say the useful part first

Answer the question in the first thirty seconds. Say your name and your service area early. People skip ahead, so the useful part comes first. End with a plain call to action: call us, visit the website, or send a message.

Pick topics people actually search

Customers search for problems, not services. Nobody types "plumbing services". They type "how to fix a leaking tap". Use the keyword research tool to find the problems your locals search, then film one video per problem each week.

Every video is SEO

Google indexes videos. A video that answers a real question can rank on Google and YouTube at the same time. Embed your videos on your website and put them on your Google Business Profile. Each video is another page of content pointing back at your site, which is how video feeds your tradie SEO and the rest of your tradie marketing.

Consistency beats polish

The tradie who posts one video a week for a year beats the one who spent a month on a single perfect video. Your first few will be rough. Nobody watches video one. Keep going.

The honesty rules

Never film a job you have not done. Ask before you film inside a customer's home, and never show a customer's face without permission. If a job is under a confidentiality agreement, leave the camera in the van.

Think about what you give away. A full how-to can teach a customer to do the job themselves. That is the strategy for some tradies and a mistake for others. Decide what your paid work is worth before you film it.

How long until it pays

YouTube is a twelve-month play, not a twelve-day one. Videos compound like word of mouth and keep working while you sleep. Point them at a tradie website that turns a viewer into a booking and the channel fills your book over time.

Before you film video one, run the keyword research tool and plan ten videos around problems your locals actually search. Then film the first one this week.
