AI Overviews
Google's AI-written summary at the top of search results. Your job is to be the source it quotes.
The Tradie Take
AI Overviews are like a customer asking their mate at the pub who to call. The mate is the AI, and you want to be the name that comes out of their mouth. If the AI quotes you, the customer already trusts you before they call.
Definition
AI Overviews are the AI-written summaries Google shows at the top of search results. Instead of a list of links, Google writes a direct answer and pulls it from websites it trusts. When a customer asks "how much does a rewire cost," Google may write the answer itself and credit the sites it used. Getting quoted in an AI Overview means being the answer, not just being on the page.
How It Works
- 1 Google decides whether a query gets an AI summary
- 2 Google pulls the answer from sites it trusts
- 3 It lists the source sites underneath the summary
- 4 Queries without an AI summary show normal search results
Tips for Tradies
- Answer the exact question in the first sentence of your page
- Use headings that match how customers actually ask
- Keep prices and details current so the AI quotes accurate info
- Get listed in the directories and tools the AI trusts
